Beginners Days

So what can you expect from a Beginners Day at Have a Go Fly Fishing?

Beginners Days run from the end of March through to October. A typical day will normally be between 6 and 7 hours in duration, and each day is tailored to suit our clients.

The day will begin with a brief introduction to the rods, lines and flies that you will be using throughout your day with us. This will include a demonstration of how to set up the rod and reel and the basic knots required to tie the fly onto the line.

Then it's on to a local sports field where you will receive a basic explanation and demonstration of an over head cast. Then it's your turn, and within an hour or so of tuition and guidance you will be ready to cast your first fly to a trout.

OK, I know what you are thinking - why do you cast on a sport's field. The answer is quite simple, if we go straight to the lake you see the trout rising out of the water to take a fly and all you want to do is put the fly on as quickly as possible and try to cast onto the water. 99% of the time, this will result in your line looking like the biggest birds nest you've ever seen, followed by at least half an hour sorting it out. No fun.

So with no fish rising to distract you, complete concentration can be given to learning the techniques used for successful casting.

After a short break for light refreshments, we will begin the journey to Unteriberg, where we will have lunch which will set us up nicely for a relaxing afternoon fly fishing on the banks of the Sitysee. This small lake situated in beautiful countryside is stocked with rainbow trout and char and is ideally suited to beginners.

The fishing permit included in your Beginners Day allows you to catch up to 3 fish. Further permits may be purchased at cost price. By the end of the afternoon, you will hopefully have caught some nice fresh trout, which will be prepared for you to take home.
